Hi!
A question about xlr´s voltages ratings. Neutrik 7 pin xlr = 50v voltage rating
There is 160v on pin 2 from the G7 psu. Is this a problem or can i use the Neutrik xlr´s?

Everybody does. Thats 50V @ 5A. Most mics work in the Milliamps range so thats why its fine. I personally dont like them for this purpose. I much prefer Binder Connectors but they are much more expensive.

I've been thinking about trying these for my next PSU project.

You would need 2 sets... but they still come out pretty affordable, and look super durable.

Edit nevermind... Somehow read "G9."

Thanks!

Yes, i like the binder connectors, but the wallet wispers Neutrik´s

Yes the old screaming wallet! The Neutrik will work just fine. Also they are easily found and so replaceable. You are much more apt to find a 7 pin XLR than anything else if you need to replace something in the field.

All the best.

Hi,

i'm currently working on a G7 project.
I use Amphenol connectors, like this one

Maybe that's although an option!?

ROCK-ON!

Reviving this old thread, I am comsidering using Neutrik 6 or 7 pin XLRs for tube mixer/rack power supply connections. I know Neutrik XLRs are generally seen as 50V rated but the RS web site also says they are rated a 250VAC:

http://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/xlr-connectors/3646340/

and I know they are often used for tube microphone power supply connections. The test voltage used is 1500VAC and the insulation resistance is 10^9 ohms so on paper it looks like a good but but there is no mention of the 250VAC rating in Neutrik's own data.

Cheers

Ian

As also rated current per contact 5 A (and 7.5A depend on model)

Am using 7pin and 5pin for tube microphones and have no problem with it.
In my S216 microphone over 190V. Current is really small here.
Am avoiding 6pin since there is problem with compatibility between different manufacturers versions.
Chinese multipin XLR also work without any problem.

Compatibility is not a problem for me because I will always supply both ends of the cable and their mating connectors. I was thinking 6 pin because  of the higher current rating (for heaters) and that is the minimum I can get away with. Good to hear it works OK at 190V. O have ordered some Neutriks to try out.

Cheers
