JVC S-VHS Jog Shuttle wheel repair?

I know that this is a common problem, and is usually easy to repair: I've seen people fix these quickly, but I must be missing something.

I've got a deck here (BR-S622DXU) where the jog & shuttle is loose and not working properly... for the life of me I cant see how to get the front panel knobs off. -I've got the rubber ring off the outside, I can see a hole for (presumably) doig just what I need to do, but I can't find a screwslot or anything like that...

No. Apparently not.

It's a dual-concentric knob, with a spinning finger-indent in the center disc for 'jog'. The outer ring is the multi-detented ring for shuttle.

It's a nuisance!

I actually have the service manual for the 622/822... they only have a very vague disassembly drawing in it which doesn't help a bit!
