Hi, folks. In Dany (Poctop)'s Ela M251 build tread there's been talk about a Beesneez body, specially fitted for Dany's PCB. But since there's lots of other talk going on there, I thought it might be a good idea to start a dedicated feeler thread. I've contacted both parties and they agreed.

So here's the (rough) idea.

The C12 clones are usually done in the well-known Apex 460/Alctron HT-11 body. This slender body comes fairly close to an original C12, especially if a custom headbasket is fitted. However, the Ela M is fatter across the waist and shaped differently, as well.

Beesneez offer a microphone body that is more like an Ela M. They use it for their own Ela M tribute, too.
Also, these bodies are of a higher quality than the Chinese ones. They're heavy duty and made from high grade metals like brass and bronze. You could kill your worst enemy with one of those, so to speak. They will last a lifetime, won't dent easily and are less susceptible to awkward resonances. Yes, they're more expensive, too. They normally cost 499 Australian dollars. But Ben and Veronica are willing to lower that by 100 dollars, if there are enough takers.
Enter Groupbuy. This would mean 399 Aussie dollars, which at the current exchange rate is about 260 euros, for instance.
On top of that they are willing to make an exact fit for Dany's PCB, along with a slightly longer sleeve and rails, matching holes in rails etc.
And the sleeves are professionally painted or powder coated, although I guess they can be had unfinished, too. There are several standard colors to choose from, but right now I don't know if a groupbuy means we have to agree on one color. Those are details. Similarly, I haven't thought of asking about making an opening for a possible pattern switch. (Edit: since Dany came up with a relay solution for the patterns, we likely won't need a switch in the first place.)

Then there's the capsule. Beesneez make a historically accurate CK12, but this is a delicate piece that requires a lot of handwork from Ben. Therefore, a large groupbuy can't be offered on this item. But they are willing to drop 30 dollars (400 instead of 430) for those who buy a body, too.

That's it for now.

Do we have any takers already?

Henk

Does anyone have a cost per mic calculated yet? (with all parts)

I'd most likely be in for a pair.

Hi Rob,

Although this collaboration will result in a very happy marriage of PCB and body, it is not a complete kit of course.
The special price for the body is in the first post. Same for the capsule if you want to include one. These parts will give you a very solid foundation and they will cover the bulk of the cost. Dany's definitive PCB is almost ready and I expect he'll have a quote soon. The cost for the rest of the parts will likely be comparable to most of the other tube mic projects here.

Don't know if this helps. Perhaps others have sensible things to say about this. If so, I think they'll do that in the parallel (build) thread:

Depending on the timeframe I would be interested in a body and maybe a capsule, if Tim does not get back to me, but I seriously doubt that. I am trying to get one of his capsules since spring last year and never got an answer.
