Does anyone know of a 2:1 stepdown line level transformers available? This is for improving the headroom of an existing piece of gear that runs off +-12 volts. There is enough make up gain to bring the level back up and noise is less of a problem at this point.

Thanks,
Tamas

There was a guy at the old place who use to always answer his own questions.
I don't know if it was a put down on all of us or wheteher he was impatient!

actually, db wise, 2:1 isn't gonna do much.
try a 10:1 or 5:1 for sufficient reduction.
but i am wondering about impedance, flipping a mic input might not work impedance wise.

Kubi, CJ,

Thanks. I will check out that Experience Electronics transformer. It is pretty affordable. I was just looking at the JT-10KB-D for a 4:1 reduction also.

I really like the LL1540 input transformer. It is very independent on source impedance - made as a "bridging" input transformer.

And I think that 2:1 is sufficient for improving headroom, as the 6dB you gain (lose) here would act like boosting supply rails to +/-24V. And that is plenty. Higher reduction on the input could possibly push you into unneded noise..
