diy c414 alternative?

Hmm, which Version? EB, XLS, XL, TL, ..., ...
The Service Docs for the EB are available here - the electronics shouldn't be a problem.
AKG Teflon CK12 are available as a spare part but they lost that magic... so you'll enter the Brass CK12 route, i.e. 414EB or C12.
Sooner or later you'll discover Tim's and MBHO's beiing the best, Ben does a variant, too.
For Tim's capsule you'll need to be patient, the ones for MBHO are not sold to DIYers.
There is a good alternative altough not DIY: http://mbho.de/pdf/mbnm608.pdf.
Or you could buy their capsule head and rip the capsule: http://mbho.de/pdf/ka1000n_ka1100k.pdf
Go for the Omni one!
For the C12 see Matador's / Chunger's Posts in the Mic section. I built one myself with Tim's capsule and had excellent results.
