The TV station I work for is finally making the jump to HD, and that means digital audio. Right now our audio chain is analog to the STL. All the final audio runs through a small analog mixer that we basically use for a final level control. It comes in handy when switching in and out of special network feeds. If some feed is too loud or too soft, or we need to fade the audio out completely and bring it back up to join something already in progress, we can just reach for the knob and make the adjustment.

When we go digital, our only option for such things will be to adjust the output on our audio processor. Not exactly a "quick and dirty" procedure, and certainly not something you can grab in an emergency.

So the boss has me searching for something simple. A gadget that can take AES/EBU digital audio in, give us a "big volume knob," and send AES/EBU digital audio out. Something we can put at the master control operator's position that he can reach for and adjust the final audio level in real time.

Any recommendations?

Thanks in advance.
