I just bought a NOS UTC O-6 on ebay.
It's a 15k : 95k interstage transformer, max level +8dBm.
I wonder if this would make a good input transformer for medium-high impedance.
The 600R : something input transformers found on many pro equipment boxes are a heavy load for many of my (not-so-pro) sound sources; and I guess I'm not the only one, as I have seen recommended replacing 600R : 10k input transformers with 10k : 10k in similar environment. With the gain loss that comes by that, of course.
Also, I've read on this forum repeatedly that making high impedance step-up transformers with good frequency response and general data is very difficult. No I wonder, with that O-6 or similar interstage stuff in my hands, not very expensive even: wouldn't that be the ideal solution as an input transformer for medium-high impedance, *and* some moderate voltage gain? (Termination of 95k or higher being no problem for a tube grid input, I presume.)
So where is the catch? Why isn't this found more often?
