I just got an email from Digi-key. The inductors from Chuck's list are going to be discontinued. So if you're planning to shop from his list, do it now. :thumb:

Mouser carries a line of inductors by Fastron that are equivalent to the Toko inductors sold by Digi-Key.

Funny coincidence: I just received a discontinuation notice from Digi-Key, too, for some E-Switch pushbuttons that I bought to use for mutes/PFL in the homemade mixer that I never seem to have time to build

As digital and surface-mount become more pervasive, I'm afraid we can expect more and more of these notices in the future.

Strangely, the datasheet doesn't seem to be online anymore. Fortunately, I saved it to my hard-drive a while back. Here 'tis:

I'm working on the Gyraf Pultec and I'm using Chuck's parts list. I'm missing one inductor (already discontinued by Digikey :? ) the Toko 22mH type 10RB, specs here: http://rocky.digikey.com/WebLib/Toko/Web%20Data/181LY%20(10RB).pdf it's part nr. 181LY-223J

I have also found some Fastron inductors at Mouser and I was wondering if I could use this Fastron inductor insted of the discontinued Toko???: http://www.mouser.com/catalog/621/633.pdf part nr. 434-02-223J

Hi Hulk,

Yes, the 434-02-223J should work.

BUT:

A local (danish) mail-order company named "VejleRC" has all these inductors available:

Good service, fast delivery. I use them a lot.

I just finished reading CJ's thread "Choosing Pultec Inductor and Cap Values", excellent stuff! :thumb: But I have a question that is probably silly.. What exactly are we looking for when choosing an inductor that is suitable for our uses? For instance.. When looking at the Mouser catalog page mentioned above what makes the Fastron's (or the Toko's) more desirable than some other inductors w/ the same value? Are there any SMD inductors that would sound good/work well?

Hi everybody.
I'm trying to locate the inductors needed for the Gyraf Pultec and found that Digikey no longer has the toko 100mh available as well as the 22mh. Anyone know if this 100mh at
http://www.mouser.com/access/?pn=434-03-104j
would work?
Thanks, John D

Thanks for the quick reply guys. I only have limited experience with electronics but after a sucessful gssl build, I'm hooked.
Anyway, I came across
http://www.jabdog.com/
Sent them an email and waiting for a reply if they have any of the Toko inductors available that we need for the pultec.
Thanks, John D

Are my posts invisible? Am I the only one who ever compared the spec sheets for the Fastrons and the Tokos and noticed that the specs are exactly the same? I keep mentioning this, but nobody seems to hear me. This has to be at least the fourth or fifth "I can't find the Tokos, what do I use?" thread. So listen up, people: BUY THE DAMN FASTRONS. THEY WILL WORK.

:green:

Jeeezz
Sorry Dave, I read your posts.
I was only wondering if the non magnetic shielding 100mh with a q minimum of 50 would work since Fastron evidently dosen't make the magnetic shielding 100mh choke. What the hell do I know?

I know the feeling

" forget about it "
(said with a fiendly tone and a hint of let it go or ce-la-vie)

I hope I used that phase correctly ... and if I didn't ... just smile politely.

Sorry, John. I didn't mean to make you feel unwelcome. It's just that I've mentioned the Fastron/Toko equivalency a number of times and yet people seem hung up on the idea that they must use the Tokos, just because that happens to be what other DIYers have used. I was annoyed at the thread, not at you.
...THEY WILL WORK.
...and, after CJ's comment about the the sharp curve sounding "knarly", I would rather use the higher resistance Fastrons anyway.

Dave, no need to apologize.
I try and find the answers to my questions by reading thru the posts but maybe I need to look a little deeper.
Anyway, thanks for your help.
John D

Funny, I woke up this morning and started to order components for this project and low and behold no inductor in stock... jump to the forum and here is the discussion.

This place rocks!

So Dave will the Fastrons work????

I'm just kidding

:guinness: :guinness:

No invisible browser posts here - I ordered the Fastrons a couple of weeks back and am building the Pultec with them as we speak.

I'll post when done (or, more likely, when I think it's done and it doesn't work!)

Hi,

I glanced thru this thread but didn't see any thing about the Cinemag Pultec inductor.. I only bring this up because I was over there 2 days ago picking up a couple of CMOQ-3S' and Tom Reichenbach mentioned their inductor during our conversation. Has anyone used these?

cheers,
James
