AKG C5900 2min Mod

Phenomenal condenser i bought for peanuts.

The moment i measured it, i noticed crazines in the high end response.

Opened it, and saw this disk surrounding the capsule. Measured it again with capsule removed, and got very nice flat response.

So if you want to mod this mic, just cut the excess rubber surrounding the capsule. I don't get why they do such dumb things.

Here's the measurements before and after. The level is the same, i just lifted one above the other so it's easier to see what's going on.

Green is stock, Yellow is modded.

Since that kinda looks like a handheld vocal mic, what're the odds that "throat" did something for the directivity / pickup pattern?

I believe it converts pattern to super cardioid.

Akg c1000 has a thing that gets attached to the capsule to create hypercardioid response.

Looking at C1000's specs and my measurements it does make sense.

However i do prefer flatter response.
