Without more information, particularly about the transformers, it's impossible for any of us to tell you if the parts can be made into a BA6A. You haven't really told us anything about the amps, not even a model number.

Why not just use them as-is? If you want something else, sell them and buy something else.

I would consider these amps to have historical value (if they're really from CBS studios) and it would be a shame to gut them for a homebrew project that may or may not be successful.

historical value: yeah i know i got these off evilbay and i don't know how I would document the CBS thing but i believe the guy who sold them to me.

Sorry for the lack of info.
I was just trying to get my first pic post to work.
**i didn't know i'd get such a flood of immediate responses** lol
I had planned to follow up the pics with some info.
I'll go flip them and try to get some numbers off of the trafos and the mi-xxxxxx numbers

thanks for all your opinions and interest
I am on the fence but... I'd really like a ba-6a ...and i don't have the bucks
thanks

ok the program amp info is as follows
RCA 84-b program amplifier
rca MI- 11204
the trafo numbers are:
T-1 RT-445-A
T-2 RT-525
T-3 XT-2704
T-4 XT-2550A (POWER TRAFO)
L-1 RT-442A
L-2 XT-875D
L-3 XT-875D

TUBES:

1620 (2)
1621 (2)
5Y3G

I have not been able to find ANY info on this amp. So of course schematics would be wonderful if anyone has one.

The wires are pretty numerous and tight so additional info from the trafos to come.
it'll just take a bit more time and effort.

**ALSO** i would also consider this to be a great mic pre project if possible.
ANY suggested usees will be appreciated.

thanks

Here's one:

How about as... a program amplifier

Sorry, but it just annoys me when people rip apart classic gear in misguided attempts to make something "cool" out of it.

Really, though, a good program amplifier has many uses around the studio.

In the meantime, if I come up with any info on this particular model, I'll let you know.

ok maybe i was asking the wrong questions
**ALSO** i haven't completely decided to do this so nobody be mad at me for thinking about cutting this thing up... nyd..hehe (never actually planned cutting just addition to the back)
ok correct me if i'm wrong:
aren't ALL compressors comprised of a preamp with a sidechain?
if so..
couldn't i add a sidechain to this unit?
would the schematic be the only way of determining this?
I'm sure it would be helpful.
but...i'm sure some theory could be applied here.
I cant find this scematic anywhere. anyone have plz plz plz?
ALSO:how would i go about measuring the input and output trafos to see if i can get 600 ohm in and 600ohm out. ( or should it be diff for mic to line bit confused here)
trafo stuff is killin me....
I wish someone would start a thread:
"everything you've always wanted to know about transformers but were afraid to ask"
I'd be there.hehe
maybe that's my next post, ok?
any way all help is most sincerely appreciated.
bye for now

anyway  :?
