Any donor mic that comes with a decent capsule?

I have used these in the past: https://www.thomann.de/nl/the_tbone_sc400_grossmembranmikro.htm
Not a bad microphone, certainly considering the price!
Capsule is a real (single sided) K67 style capsule that does not sound bad at all.
What makes it sound less than perfect, is that there is no de-emphasis in the microphone, resulting in an over bright character.

It's a 1" diameter capsule, which is smaller than a u67's 34mm. Similar but the smaller diaphragm changes the transient response if the op is looking for a more typical LDC.

Op is in Canada, so MXLs should be easier to find and cheaper than shipping from Europe. I believe the 992 has a 32mm diaphragm. That same diaphragm is in the Aurycle kit, which is frankly a better body than almost all cheaper donor mics.

Nope, you are wrong here :)

SC400 use exactly the same capsule as 992 - 32mm K67.
Same microphone you can find under apex, alctron, nady cad and some other brands.
Schoeps topology on the boards.
These capsules are pretty good if they work in well modified circuit.
They can handle high polarisation voltages without any problem.
Good option as replacement of 34mm k67 in rode nt1a, sounds better (less hyped highs) and don't clogg as original.

Thomann sells a lot of interesting stuff ! But it's minimum 50 Euro for international shipping  :'(

I will look at what MXL has to offer. There's a few model build exclusively for Guitar Center in the US and not available for Canadian orders  ???

The microphone in the link says 1". So either the description is wrong or the microphone has change. 1" is 25mm.

Description is wrong or they changed capsule (i doubt on that).
WIth chinese microphones descriptions often data is wrong :)
I had that microphone for modification.

Yeap Henk, you are right ;)

Thomann description is diaphragm diameter not capsule.
In fact diaphragm diameter is 25mm.
