i'm having a bit of trouble finding which opamp to use for the 312 i'll be receiving soon.

should i go 2520, melcor, JLM opamp, or what about the John Hardy 990 series?

how much does it cost to stuff the 2520 and melcor boards that fabio supplies with the 312 kit?

has anyone built a few with different opamps and liked one more than the other for some reason?

thanks for any help.

Why don`t you just build a 2520 & a Melcor for starters & try them out. They only cost £2 -£3 to stuff & then you see if you like any of the cheap alternatives before you splash out on a Hardy or JLM which cost a lot more..

I have made a pair of 312`s using the Melcor & they sound really nice, but I have some boards coming for the 2520 which I will try.

good idea.
dont know why i was thinking they cost much to stuff.
and the hardy opamp does cost about 45$ each.
sounds like a plan.

thanks.

I got some wonderful vocal takes with the Melcor in the 312. It was richer in the mids than the 2520... in my opinion with the 2520 it was a little bit too harsh. On the other hand, when it comes to percussion, I go with the 2520.
