Dont know if this belongs in the brewery, but since Hulk posted up about the SSL sound I thought it would be a good idea to run something through it and post it up.

I ran a minute of drums from a recent demo mix onto a masterlink, and after that I ran it back into nuendo through the SSL. Im not the greatest AE around, so take it for what it is. I think it sounds amazing though..

The setting indication is just the switch position since I dont have the values on my clone frontplate

This one is with the ssl in bypass, just the drums running back in for comparison. http://lavfrekvent.dk/mp3/Audio 01_01.mp3

http://lavfrekvent.dk/mp3/SSL_01.mp3 ratio2, att4, rel4.
http://lavfrekvent.dk/mp3/SSL2_00.mp3 ratio2, att2, rel2 (snare focused)
http://lavfrekvent.dk/mp3/SSL3_00.mp3 ratio4, att6, rel=extra release setting (pos 6) I love this distortion.
http://lavfrekvent.dk/mp3/SSL4_00.mp3 ratio4, att6, rel2 (only set to pump the BD)

Remember i didnt mix to the SSL on these ones, I just ran something static through it to give people a chance to hear how it works.

Sounds good. :thumb:

Maybe go into a bit more detail like type of drum set, etc, etc, etc.
This would be perfect for parallel(SP) compression. You know where you take a sub mix of drums, compress them and then ad them in with the original mix of drums to get a more beefy sound.

yes, this is my impression as well..Using this for parallel compression will rock.

drums were fibes,
OH: C451s (was a very bad choice for this) -> phoenix DRS2,
Toms: 441s -> phoenix DRS2. (I usually get better toms with this combo)
Snare is an SM57 through a gyraf GII if I recall correctly. It was tuned WAY too low so its been heavily processed ITB.
BD is an RE20 going through a channel of the vintage-designs Dual preamp pre if I recall correctly. I cant remember doing anything where I didnt settle on the vintage designs for a solid kicksound.

I think that the bypassed example should still give a good idea of what the compressor does though.
c-451 a bad choice? In my expierence 451's are not bad as OH just put them in an X/Y and enjoy.
They were in XY, but still a bad choice for this player/kit.....
