Hi all

I have a TLM 170 with no capsule and I have a Dale M7 capsule, a U67- type capsule and a Peluso U87-type capsule.

I know I should try them all, but according to the original spec, which would be a better match?

Many thanks
Peter

Your TLM 170 had a medium sized (membrane) capsule.  Not too common.

If you can fit it, the Dale may be nice.
But having all  polar patterns in the same may prove problematic. (?) It's not an M49.

I think the circuit is pretty flat (if left alone), so pre-emphasized 67 and 87 style capsules would be too bright.
But I'm curious to hear what others think.

Of course you could get a new capsule from Sennheiser/Neumann, but those are pricey.
The mic is worth it, though.

I think i would put the correct capsule back in.

So would I, but I dont have it.

I was given the mic as is and told that it had been checked by Sennheiser here in South Africa and all it needs is a new cap.

So I called them and got a quote and nearly crapped my bermudas. R9 000-00 about $800.

So I thought I would explore the options!

Peter
