I recently mentioned that the Maduro controlled Venezuelan supreme court announced they would dissolve the legislature, they backed off on that, but have made a handful of strong opposition candidates ineligible to run for office with trumped up charges. So one small step back from the abyss. 

Venezuela just made a $2B bond payment despite their poverty, because if they didn't their assets in the US could be seized (they own citgo oil assets in the US for one).

I mentioned the election in Ecuador, where Julian Assange's embassy domicile was perhaps at risk. Well, officially the hand picked candidate by the ruling leftist party has won, despite exit polls showing the opposition candidate with a narrow lead. The polling firm's offices have been raided by the government with some vote count irregularities reported..

So it looks like Julian Assange is safe in Ecuador's embassy for now.
