Hey
Has anyone tried this?  Swapping out the 4148 type diodes for germanium diodes?  I've heard it can "soften" the limiting.  I'm thinking of this for 166 (think peakstop) type comps as well as 163 (less of an issue but curious).

Any suggestions of what part numbers to try for Germanium?  Any reputable vendors on eBay ?

I have some russian germanium  diodes in stock, genuine ge diodes

Never heard of it, smells like a GS post to me.  However Si and Ge diodes have a different voltage drop across them, so it may change *something*.  I would guess a 1N34 would sub just fine for the 1N4148.

Yep from GS alright...  The idea was that it would produce less harsh distortion on the peak  stop from a 166 (as opposed to just disabling the peakstop limiting all together).
