Advice Needed for Laser and Paint Filling

Anodized aluminium. Nothing filled.
Anodized aluminium gets white from the  laser.

The words Laser engraving / etching / marking is mixed up too often.

Little late to the party but... There is also annealing that can create different colors, which is a chemical modification vs melting.

The annealing can work only on steel and Titanium and also requires YAG, or fiber laser, which is way expensive for DIY'ers. The cheap CO2 lasers would work on any metal with using special bonding materials like Sermark or Thermark. It also works great on anodized Al and with right speed and power will leave beautiful mark on powder coated surface (sometimes you might need to do a couple passes).
