Hello

I recently pulled 15 reallllly nice Allen Bradley dual concentric 10k audio taper potentiometers with aluminum alco knobs from some gear I was dismantaling. For some reason, in my head I thought they were linear taper and would be great for some state variable eq's I have on my list. Of course...I noticed that they are audio taper after pulling all 15 out.  ;D

Any ideas on a project I could build with these? I don't need anything in particular and am not opposed to anything synth, guitar, or recording related. Just need a project because these parts are too nice to put to waste! I also have single 5k audio taper and 1m linear taper pots that have the same feel. So far I've got no ideas and don't want to put them to waste! If I had 16 of them....that would make things easier too...but such is life.

I have some of these too, you may find this helpful in making decisions.

Woah! Had no idea, will have to measure them and see. Thank you very much.  :)

I've had some pots that measured great and looked pretty smooth on the meter but, when I put them to use, there was noise.....Could've been dc on them but I didn't see any, I'm guessing the tracks may have been goofy and my meter wasn't catching that. I saw a video of a guy who ran pots through a scope and it seemed to show up any abnormalities but, who knows.......

Nice pots though.....

Passive monitor controllers/attenuators use that value often....... Put a 12AT7 gain stage after..... Nice.....

I wouldn't throw them out for sure.... They look so cool in the bin anyhow.....lol

Good luck!!!

Interesting. I have never had much luck measuring pots on my multi meter, the update rate isnt fast enough to catch any issues. I will usually run them through a scope on a nice clean sine wave with a fast enough timebase and just see if they have any dropouts or weird gain anomalies.
I might run these through a spectrum analyzer at different settings if they add distortion tho, I have never heard of that, so will have to look into it.

Thats a good idea! The only other two ideas I have been able to come up with a line amp input and output gain control on 1 knob, or maybe a small field line mixer (but I really dont ever see me needing that). These would be cool for a monitor controller tho, especially the input gains. Hmmm

Here are some pictures, if these were linear taper pots, I would be using them for state vairable filters (Q and Gain) but alas, I dont know of any state variable designs that need a 10k audio taper pot for the gain control.

I guess you have it covered by testing them..

I have hand tools ...lol

Mod Pots??

Those are pretty cool...

They do get wonky in value but I don't think I've heard scratchy ones........, I have a couple in a limiter/// from the 70's still going strong......

lol time to get a good cheap scope then. It helps so much!  ;D

Yes, thats been my experience too, hence my excitement to get these!
