Hey guys

Could you pleas help me identify the pin outs of this old capacitor? I need to know which one is the inner + ?

It is 3 in one.

Half circle 40uf
Square 40uf
Triangle 10 uf
Can -ve

I am about to install this as a reservoir cap at the power transformer and it is necessary to know the inner/outer pins.

Usually red dot is inner, yellow is outer but no dots here.

Thanks a lot guys!

I'm sure that someone will help you with the identification but do you really want to risk it?

After all this time it may have dried out and have a very short life.

What do you mean by 'inner' and 'outer'?

The three sections are all positive in relation to the case, the four mounting pins which are all negative.

It's like three capacitors rate 40, 40, and 10uF with their negative connections connected together.

And yes, read about and DO reforming before trying to use an old electrolytic capacitor. It may or may not work.

hey

thanks guys for the input.

Yes, that is clear that all the pins are positive and can negative. I was referring to the schematic (attached) and my understanding was that with multisection cap's the positive ins also has an order if the values are the same...

it reads:

"It is very important when wiring the electrolytic capacitor to ensure
that the correct section is used as the reservoir capacitor C100. The
section which is identified as the `outer', or else marked with a red
spot, should be used for this component. "

why is this so important?
