Who's hacked a U87AI for more patterns? After all, it's the same DC converter board as in the 5 pattern U89, it's just not fully stuffed with parts and the pattern switch would have to be changed. Would the U89 switch assembly retrofit, or would it be a crude hack?

U89 have completely different switching unit also it's much more smaller diameter of whole microphone.
There's not much option to modifiy phisically siwtching unit in U87. You could just add additional internal switches or jumpers but to change the pattern for extra two caridoids you will have to open microphone each time.

Or change the XLR insert for more pins and do it remotely.
