I am pleasantly surprised the Americans took to Monty Python. It was at its peak in the early 70s when I was at university. The junior common room was packed every time it was on. I had always assumed it was a student/intellectual comedy type thing because of that. My wife does not like it much but a few years back I was very surprised to find my brother-in-law is a big fan and he's a salt of the earth blue collar guy. We went together to see a live production of MP's Camelot and we both roared with laughter. A few days later he bought me a pair of coconut halves. Just shows how humour crosses every boundary.

We certainly did. And why not, it is hilarious..

Good Neighbors
Dr Who, both old and new versions
Mr. Bean
And my favorite, Allo Allo.

I did not realise you had imported so many. To my mind, one of the unsung heroes of British script writing is Terry Nation who invented the Dalks amongst other things. If you like the first generation Dr. Who stories you will probably like Terry's later work Blake's 7 of which I am a big fan:

The sets are even dodgier than the early Dr. Who ones.

LOL.  Doesn't she realise that only in the 'imperialist' west would she be allowed to make such comments.

I think she'd fight against anyone who suggested they could allow or not allow her, and she's got a lot of company.

Which doesn't matter. The implication you're making is obvious and laughable, that since she has the freedom to say what she likes in the west, then she shouldn't say things that you don't want her to say, like calling it imperialist. Get up man, walk around. Come up with something better than "She should shut up, she owes us something." She doesn't.

She was born with the freedom to say what she thinks. You had nothing to do with it, and neither did I.

LOL.

That sparks a memory.  I spent three very interesting days at BBC television centre in London doing some consultancy work for Rupert Neve.  They had a console in the BBC Cypher Suite where, for some unknown reason, all the faders would suddenly jump to top.  I was called in to try and see what was happening and see if I could find the cause.  The sound engineers there were doing the sound effects for Blakes 7 where they added all the door bleeps. engines starting, pops and whistles etc.  They had a machine like a Melotron with the sound effects on rapid-rewind tape loops - fascinating to watch it working.

Anyway, I got talking to the sound engineer and asked about how the BBC paid engineers.  He walked over to the console and unscrewed the talk-back mic capsule and continued the conversation.  He told me that all microphones in that building could not be 'confidently' be switched off as they all went through a central patching hub, including radio mics - he had a story where a well known sport presenter (Frank Bough) went to the toilet during a programme break. He was sitting there doing his No.2s when a voice came over his headset - "We know what you're doing ".   :)

Happy memories - the BBC was a barrel of laughs.

Cheers

I said absolutely nothing about what I 'want' her to say. What I was trying to point out is her naivety.

Yeah, I showed her (lack of) naivete here.

That is the point. She is not aware of the realities in Syria any more than you or I are and we would be naive if we thought we did.

I thought your point was that she's naive, and what she says should be dismissed. Isn't that what you're suggesting?

Once again, please stop putting words in my mouth. I never said everything she says should be dismissed.  That impication is yours alone. I just said she is naive.

MOSCOW, April 19. /TASS./ Chlorine containers from Germany and smoke bombs from Salisbury were found in Eastern Huta. This was announced on Thursday at a briefing, the official representative of the Russian foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova.
"In the liberated territories of Eastern Guta, Syrian government troops found containers with chlorine, the most terrible type of chemical weapons, from Germany, as well as smoke bombs from the city, attention, Salisbury, UK."
     Maria Zakharova
official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry
The attacks on the United States and its allies in Syria was applied to provide the radicals and extremists the opportunity to take a breath and restore their ranks, also said she.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Sounds like business as usual.

Why would the west have to make up stuff like this to discredit Putin?

Similar claims were made about the Skripal poisoning.  The US participated in helping clean up the old soviet poison weapons plant in Uzbekistan starting back in the 1990s. The alternate narrative is that US collected samples of Novichok during a past  clean-up and/or files about how to make it were shared with the UK.

The goal of modern propaganda is not to prove a false narrative, but to make people distrust all information sources. There are many useful idiots in western media more than glad to help with that.

Of course opinions vary and stuff like this is difficult to prove definitively, even after several days because chlorine gas dissipates quickly, and chlorine is a common industrial chemical.

The chemical weapons inspectors haven't been able to get into Douma yet? I guess the area came under small fire and some explosions ?
"At the time when they were in the area, shooting began from the part of the city where there are still several dozen extremists who were clearly warned about who will be nominated in the area and for what purpose."
Sergey Lavrov the Minister of foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation

It turns out that extremists are very well informed. In addition, they are very well armed.
