This one may appear to be old hat, but once you have used it it seems obvious.  The best way to explain it is using an example.

So, you are repairing an old amp that has RCA connector mounted on a panel and you want to connect it to the top of a pot (re) using an old 'tropical fish' Mullard capacitor.  Unfortunately, the cap has seen better days, its the only one you have, the leads are only a few mm long and don't reach from the connector to the pot .

Trying to extend the cap leads is a PITA,  this little wiring trick might help.

Use some stiff tinned copper wire (I use the stiff silver-plated stuff 'cos my wife has lots of it) and make a direct connection from the connector to the pot, bending it to make it nice and neat of course.

Bend the leads on the cap to make little hooks and hook these over the wire link you have just made and solder the cap in place.

Then, snip the tinned wire from between the cap leads and lo! you have a very neat extended cap held in place by the stiff wire.

Easy.

Cheers

Mike
