doing a 5F6a Fender Bassman circuit, but without one of the input channels,

bought a 12AY7 for the input tube,

can i use the other half of the 12AY7 tube for one side of the cathode follower and a 12AX7a for the other half?

which half goes where?

The first "half" isn't part of the cathode follower, it's just a regular common cathode amplifier stage. I would use the 12AX7 there and the 12AY7 as the cathode follower.
