transformer turns ratio

My bonehead question for the week...I am still modding this tube mic pre (RP 220) and I am going to intall new input transformers..this thing has a TON of gain with the stock 1:10..I was thinking of going to 1:7 or 1:5 to reduce the gain a little..what will this do to the signal (besides reduce the overall gain)?
Am I barking up the wrong tree? Once again, you guys have been great..thanks for putting up with me

Recapped last week, along with the telefunken 12ax7's this thing doesn't sound half bad!

I don't see a problem with that, but do check what the terminating resistor is as you may need to lower it as well.
