Hey everyone,

Does anyone have experience comparing the Thiersch M7 to other U47 clone capsules?  Esp the Maiku or others similarly priced?

I prefer it to the Heiserman and Beesneez in this shootout:

After listening to this Vintage King Shootout, the Thiersch also seems to have the most depth and is closest to the Telefunken U47 with the Neumann capsule (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pHcBrx9UlKo).

I would love to have a clone built on par with the Flea 47.  The Wunder sounds bigger and bolder but to me does not have the depth or clear mids of the Flea for some reason for me.  Wondering what the build differences might be (tube/transformer/etc?).  If you have any information let me know!

Thank you!
Eric

Of course, every single component gives some character.  Whole package gives the sound. So, you should do some search here and try to figure out your preferred combination. Also, microphone body does some serious impact on sound. It's naive to expect from cheap alloy Chinese body to sound the same as the original brass one. So, be intuitive and clever. LOL

Which Thiersch M7 idid you test? I have a Thiersch red in my Wunder. I believe that is what he is using. I also have a beesneez K7 in a CV4. I have to say that I like the Beesneez a lot. It is very smooth. Knowing that a PVC capsule will break down at some point kind of puts me off them. From my tests, moving a singer an inch makes more difference than the capsule used in the mic. (if the casules are of the same type and quality). I'd love to have endless amounts of money to try various capsules, but alas, I have a family to support too. :)
