Hi,
I am but a bear of little brain and am contemplating buying an Api Preamp copy which you can see pictured. Unfortunately the seller know little about it but thought someone here might recognise the circuit.
Best wishes

Without a schematic of the circuit it is impossible to say what it is based on. But I can't see any 2520 type opamps or API syle transformers, therefore it will sound nothing like an API pre.

You say it could be Belclere... I never saw them so I cannot comment. Could be!
But I was under the impression when I first saw the pic that this is OEP with mumetal enclosure.

Luka,

And I have never seen OEP, so I think you may be correct!  OEP seems more likely for a DIY project.

OEP transformers usually have a label covering most of the top of the transformer.

Yes if they are not covered with mumetal can. They are black plastic with white sticker on top.
Like this one for instance - https://uk.farnell.com/oep-oxford-electrical-products/a262a3e/transformer-1-1-6-45-6-45-150/dp/1172344
But if you buy the can separately, they usually don't come with any label on top.
I bought from diy-tubes and though they are marketed on the webshop pic with custom label, mine came with no label at all.

I'm not saying it's OEP, but just that it looks to me very similar to OEP with mumetal can.
Could be Belclere... could be something else... who knows...

But what we know for sure - this board is not API clone.
It's apiish - transformer to opamp - style unknown preamp...

:)

Sorry, I did not explain properly. OEP supply versions already in a mu metal can. These also have a big label on top. All their transformers with a 'C' suffix are like this.

Thanks for your opinions... As Its too far to travel its impossible to try the thing out so I guess I'll save up for something more conventional and expensive! This was a 4 channel unit for £500 so we'll priced if it's actually any good. What I'm really looking for is something which will be good for recording straight to tape without noise reduction.
