People who believe they can teach themselves everything usually have arrogant teachers.

20 years ago there were classes in practical circuit design and building at the community colleges and career training places. They've all been replaced by computer building and network admin courses. I've successfully built 10 preamps and restored and modded a few amps, but I'm troubleshooting 12 more preamps and it feels like I'm at the end of what I can learn easily on my own.

Is there somewhere around LA where I can take classes specifically on analogue audio design, diagnosis, and repair? Anybody willing to give some private lessons perhaps?

That's a great idea, but there doesn't seem to be. Here's the AES Symposium schedule, and it's all about using gear rather than building it. There's a single 1-hour presentation by Audio Builder's Workshop, but they're based in MA and don't seem to have anything ongoing on this coast.

Regardless, I'm happy to discover Audio Builder's Workshop. That's exactly what I'm looking for, and if one exists on the east coast then there must be another somewhere in LA.

Where in LA are you? I've done the university thing,  as both student and teacher,  but it's kind of tough to find things specific to analog audio. So it still takes a good bit of independent study.

Have you read the Doug Self books?
