Hi Guys,

I'm going to be making some Melcors from Fabio's boards
and I need to get hold of the pins and sockets to mount the Op Amp
onto the main board (API and What). Fabio recommended millmax,
but I can't find them on the RS site or Farnell sites, which are my too
main options. Does anyone have a part no or could recommended a
substite for both of these, the pins and sockets?

Thanks a lot

Matt

Too bad I can't post pics, but I've found a very satisfying solution by using the type of pins that are used in IC-sockets as well. There are those double rows     eeeh, this kind of description is not going to work, let's try the scanner...

... hope to add a pic in the next message

I found some scribbled notes

Farnell

SOCKET 1.0MM PCB GOLD KNURLED
149319 SOCKET 1.0MM PCB GOLD KNURLED H3161-05 $0.66

SOCKET 1.0MM PCB GOLD PLAIN
150501 SOCKET 1.0MM PCB GOLD PLAIN H3183-05 $0.70

but I also found a reference to this number ?
150-510

Those pins are of course more neat and I guess they'll provide universal interchangebility(sp?).

For the time being I used the pins as in the pic below for the first 1731 I soldered.
I hope the vague description of above it becomes more clear now:

1731_pins_01.jpg

Using an additional (large) IC-socket you can easily keep the separate pins in place while soldering and because of the thru-holes of the PCBs (from Jay) the pins already snap nicely into place before they're soldered (note the wider rim on the gold-coloured separate pin).

Mouser: 575-310320
manufacturer: Mill-Max Manufacturing (part number 3103-2-00-21-0000080)

digikey carries mill-max as well.

I am using Millmax pins. They are working wonderfully!!

MILLMAX PART# 0344-2-19-01-34-27-10-0 (DIGIKEY PART#ED5021-ND)
This is the female pin for the main pcb.

MILLMAX PART# 3103-2-00-21-00-00-08-0 (DIGIKEY PART#ED5052-ND)
This is the male pin for the 1731.

The male pins are gold plated. The sockets of the female pins
are also gold plated.

Hope this helps

Matt

I bought these from RS and they look good. I've never actually used them  , but in a previous thread, someone else had used them with success.

Socket :

434-712 RS R2-00

Pins :

433-860 RS R45-00/500 [edited]

I have a bag of 500 pins, I could give you a few.....

Peter

Hey Peter!

Thanks, I should have just asked you first ;-) Those sockets look great. I tried searching for the pins on RS SA with that code and I got a 3 office draw... Hah hah!

If you could spare a couple pins that would be great, I'll drop you an e-mail.

Thanks to everyone else as well, thanks Kev your look great to.

Cheers

Matt

so, if i go with some of the sockets that kev suggested from farnell, which pins will fit them? Is it a standard size?

If possible, id like to get them from farnell also.

thanks!
/Jonas

As far as I know, the "standard" size pins for a genuine API 2520 are 1mm or .04".

However, as long as you're making the 1731 yourself, you can buy whatever diameter pins you want as long as the sockets match.

Earlier in this thread Gary mentioned some MillMax pins and sockets that, when I plug them into the Mouser catalog are listed as ".062 PCB." I'm not sure if this means, "accepts a pin size of .062?" (It also says "Swage Mount" and I have no idea WTF that means.)

Spec sheets are available at mill-max.com so you can make sure you're ordering the right thing - or at least something compatible.

I'm going to pour over the specs before I order and try to get as close to
.04" as possible. (Just in case I want to plug in a Avedis or some other compatible 2520.)

It seems to me you could safely use MillMax part#: 0329-0-15-01-34-27-10-0
which is Mouser#: 575-032900

Somebody correct me,
Kato

EDIT:
after doing more research, it looks like the parts specified by Gary above are exactly correct. They have a "pin diameter range" of of .032" - .047" although it seems that the pins from the opamp sit above the PCB rather than go through the PCB.

Hi Kato

You can think of swage mount as rivit press operation however
for our purpose don't worry about mounting them this way. As is
they fit the holes in Fabio's pcb very nicely and solder in place
perfectly.

alo
here`s what i used:
mouser p/n
socket:575-034420
male pin:575-310220
both made by mill-max.

This is the female pin for the main pcb.

Warning: They don't fit in the Sontec PCBs (Rev 1.6) and the Forsell PCBs (Rev 1.c) I got!

Does anyone has a confirmed female pin that fits into these boards?
