I used inventor previously. never dabbled with solidworks.
Fusion360 is good because of the community, not just the software. Any problem you have is a youtube away from being resolved.
the learning curve with Fusion360 is not very hard either. For the kinds of stuff that I do, I was able to do the basics, such as basic enclosures within an hour or so. It seems that the hardest thing is to know what order to do things in, and make sure things are constrained. I suspect those skills will cover me whichever toolchain I go to.
