I work with CCTV/Video analytics/security in my daily job and a customer asked me if i could make a thing that can detect how much dirt there is in the water flooding by.  Its for a water treatment plant.

Then I thought of you guys. I don't know anyone better than you to help me solve this issue.
My idea was to set up some photodiode with some readings in between 1-100. It doesn't have to be 100% accurate at all. Its just for identification so the customer know when to clean filters.

Best Regards

I wonder if ph levels can be monitored, or some chemical analysis type monitoring that would indicate the amount of 'dirt' in suspension.

Edit: galvanics?  Just trying to think of some other way than optical, as optics in untreated water I imagine would get dirty over time.

Thanks Jakob.

Exactly what I was looking for. I will dig into that. Does this part have a specific name?

Its called "Turbidity"

This is quite a common device in all water treatment plants
