Essentially all of the old outlets have been shut down or greatly diminished by the likes of Mouser and Digi-Key, although there is still a chain called ITC. Fry's has an odd and poorly maintained stock of parts, at least the one near me (Canoga Park).

Compatriots nearer the recording scene in and around Hollywood may know of some places that still are useful.

actually i think all of the Frys have Shite for Stock.

its rather sad.

where might i find ITC

i live in the CulverCity area and am working in Burbank.....

I just wish I was back in Camden.

Places I go to for parts in LA.

Marvac Electronics 12453 Washington Blvd. Los Angeles, CA. 90066

Ametron 1546 N. Argyle, Hollywood

APEX Electronics, 8909 San Fernando Rd., Sun Valley, CA, 91352
(The Mecca of surplus! and It's just up the 5 from Burbank)

C&H Surplus 2176 E. Colorado Blvd., Pasadena, CA 91107

Ahhh Brill!!!

that is what i am looking for.....

That MarVac on Washington is within about 6 blocks of my house. Very convenient. They are down to one aisle of boat anchor stuff, but there is still quite a bit to sift through. Also, they seem to keep a lot of stuff behind the counters - I think for security purposes. Ask if you don't see it on the floor.
APEX fooking rules.

Apex is a funny place--it's been years since I've been in there. Old Slater had a son who described himself as an S.O.B., meaning Son of Boss.

They had a guy working behind the counter who was amazingly inert and uncooperative. I was looking for discrete semis and they had no stock list. He considered it an affront that I kept trying new part numbers and that he had to keep moving from the counter to look if they had them. I suggested that perhaps I could come back to where they were and scan the stock. Of course this was out of the question.

Pacific Radio Electronics Inc, (818) 556-4177, 2243 N Hollywood Way, Burbank, CA

Electronic City Inc. (818) 842-5275, 4001 W. Burbank Blvd. Burbank, CA

...where I go when I can't wait for email-order.

The above PacRadio is next door to the Burbank Fry's, as well.

All Electronics on Oxnard about a block and a half west of Van Nuys.

Plus, they're open Sat & Sun till 5pm.

Oh, and one of our very own members works at Apex.

All Electronics is very good for some stuff, retail for others. They have a bunch of polystyrene caps, BTW.

There is also a Pacific Radio at 962 N. La Brea.

Pacific Radio mainly just has cabling stuff.

There used to be a Marvac in Pasadena, but they lost their lease. Right after they closed a banner went up that said "Coming Soon... Du Vac Electronics" but nothing is there last I checked.

Has anyone ever been to APEX Jr?
http://www.apexjr.com/

It's in La Cresenta which is just up La Tuna Canyon from APEX.

Just found this forum and I did work for my father for 30 years
at Apex and started on my own about 13 years ago doing Audio
Surplus. And YES I did say I was a S.O.B. which was Son of Boss

Yep Steve, that was indeed George. Amco was formed after he realized he didn't need a business partner---also, as a Wood, he wanted a name that started near the beginning of the alphabet for a change. After he retired my brothers and I efficiently put it in the toilet, although it did take a few years (at least I'll never have to work with them again  ). It sounds like your family business has worked out quite a bit better.
