I kind of like the magnetics subgroup.
It occurred to me that the naming and shaming idea has come up before.:Should there be a blacklist for bad actors? I noticed a post by winston oboogie today and it reminded me of the time I was ripped off by “aardman” or john lissongrove.  Rlaury posted recently and is accused of ripping off members that paid for vactrols a year or 3 back.  Then there are the mic body makers  that have evaporated with member funds...
I see listings for tiny, unproven or yet to be made pcb designs of questionable merit hawked—asking an extreme IP premium considering  the size of board (for a transcript of an existing design).
This place evolves and  is still great but I cannot get the bitter taste out.

Having been ripped off a couple of times for a few hundred,  [ here ] I think some kind of accountability list is not a bad idea!
It would take extra work policing , listing updating such a list by a trusted [ moderator ? ] member
Mostly but it's not just the black market , if the answer is do away with it [ there are few grp buys ever anymore anyway  ] buyer beware doesn't help so much with people who have been members for a long time. [ both of my losses ]

two red flags are; people who are moving  [ if they tell you  ] can't find them after that , and those who have been inactive for while
and suddenly appear selling stuff.  with less long term or contributing members , I've noticed a more ebay vibe of some black market sellers not mentioning small details , or people joining just to dump stuff , Anyway I'm for a list , I think there would be some incentive to not want to get on it !

I cannot speak for all the moderators but we do not have super powers beyond forum housekeeping or police authority.

We do enjoy a tight knit forum community so we can use peer pressure and public shaming to identify bad actors and repeat offenders.

Of course be careful about false accusations.

PS: I was thinking about proposing a "safe space" sub forum... it would be locked so nobody could post there. It would truly be free of all offenses  8)  [/kidding].

If I am remembering correctly, there used to be a rating system for transactions...

I’ve never been completely ripped off, but after buying some projects from others on the black market I have learned that other people’s diy isn’t always up to the standards they advertise...

I'll drink to that!

With the exception of group buys with crazy long lead times, if you pay with PayPal, how are you going to get ripped off if today's day and age? PayPal gives the buyer 180 days to file a claim....its actually pretty crazy.

Is it just me or do I notice a percentage of BM posts wher ethe vendor should really be on the WM ?
I am not sure I should say this because it could make more work for me/us... BUT if you see something in the black market that "clearly" violates the rules, report it to moderators.

That goes for all rule violations in any forum but please stick to the real rules. If you don't know, we might not either (over the years I've seen some odd complaints).  8)

The actual rules per Ethan...

the idea of a thread for black market related grievances intends to function like a rating system;
I have had 99% positive transactions with members here, and do not wish to stir up a soap opera...It really bothers me when a transaction goes sour because this is such a great place.
as this place has become more commerce oriented we must remember caveat emptor.

thanks to ethan and the moderators!

Shabtek,
I completely understand where you're coming from and where you were coming from initially.  Maybe I shouldn't have made my other post, it weighed on my mind what was the right thing to do, still does.
I also don't want drama or to create a soap opera.
But I would like to do whatever I can to sort out any grievance.  I really don't know what we're talking about though so maybe send me a PM.  Not sure if your inbox is full, I tried sending one but don't see it in my sent now, not a regular user of PMs here though so...
Peace,
D.J.H.
