I use these toggle switches a lot in my designs:

https://www.mouser.co.uk/ProductDetail/Mountain-Switch/108-2MD1T2B3M2QE-EVX?qs=%2Fha2pyFaduippFcq7Kub5lDq%252BymWnru8mYCxbNKjoRtHR4fnGcrbMA4NDvMEKgvo

To fix them to the front panel they used hex nuts that fit the  10-48UNS tread on the switch. However, you can never get them all to line up which can make a front panel look untidy. So I would like to use rounded nuts, the type with a knurled edge which I believe are called dress nuts. Google seems to be no help at all in finding these. Anyone know a source?

Cheers

I think they are an option when ordering a C&K  or NKK switch.  I don’t recall seeing them sold separately.  I think that C&K  toggle switches use a fine pitch metric thread. Hard to find on this side of the pond. I could be wrong and it could be different over there .

Not quite what you were looking for, but this would work...
https://www.mouser.co.uk/ProductDetail/CK/298D01201?qs=sGAEpiMZZMsaqnnEkh1zaYlcFzOOt2c1%252BQFImroXRRY%3D

I actually had emachineshop make nuts to retrofit toggles into holes in a panel once. The threading was good but the edges were not because I used the cheaper 2d tool chain which was clearly a water-jet so there was a crude bevel. Presumably the "3d" tool chain would be proper machined quality. Although it would definitely be a lot more expensive and I don't know if they can do a knurled edge.

Bloody hell you're not wrong!
Closest I found was here:  https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/toggle-switch-hex-nuts/1253539
But it's for a larger toggle and I can't find anything on NKK's site which indicates anything with the smaller bushing of 10-48 even though I'm certain I've seen them.
When you search the UK Mouser which you linked to, even though they sell the mountain switch with that bushing, the size doesn't even come up as an option for bushing size, and no metric equiv.  either.  Closest metric I think would be M5 X 0.5

Precision machine shop custom job maybe?  A  manufacturer in China already makes them maybe?

McMaster turned out to be a good lead. I searched for low profile nuts and ended up at McMaster. Turns out there is a sub heading called Panel Nuts under which we find knurled panel nuts. Not the right size but I have some alternative search terms now.

"Deep Thread Round Nut" or "potentiometer round nut" produces collet type search returns.

Wish I could be of more help!  Seems 10-32 UNF is popular.

"UNS threads are special combinations of diameter and pitch"  would explain sourcing difficulty.

You can find 3.5mm panel mount mini jack sockets with the type of round serrated  nut you describe , Ive no idea if its the same thread as your looking for, I have some of those chinese mini jacks ,I'll  try them against the different brands  of mini toggles I have later and see if anything matches up .

For clarity, the switches I typically use are Mouser part 612-200-F1121or Mouser part 108-2MD1T2B3M2QE-EVX or Farnell part 9473068. They are all basically the same switch with minor variations in bat length.

Nice try but the one you chose has solder lugs rather than the PC pins I need and the pin spacing is different. But I will check for a solder pin version.

I rememeber getting confused with these many years ago. They look so like the ones I use with 0.2 and 0.4 pin spacings. I could not work out why these would not fit until I realised the have 0.189 pin spacings.

That is the sort of thing I had in mind. Can't seem to find any info on the threads supported. I got some knurled nuts for a pot a long time ago which ad a n even lower profile. Forget where I got them from though.
