Hi everybody,

I built myself a mastering transfer console comprising the following features:

+/- 5dB Input Gain
6 Step Low- and Hipass
Input Mute L / R / L+R
6 stereo inserts with flip function of each pair
7th insert with MS Matrix
Elliptical filter with optional 6dB slope
stereo width control
Tilt EQ for side signal
+ a good bunch of monitoring options

I totally recommend this project since its easy to modify and Wayne offers an amazingly nice support.
Regards,
Falk

Some more pics. I can only put the caption on the knobs later this month.

Wow !!  ;)

I built one too last year using the Wayne pcb.

Excellent project, highly recommended!

I dont know if OP is watching this thread but how are you wiring the led part of the illuminated switches?  Would it be best practice to daisy chain the grounds together as well as the led power?  The switch is turning it on and off so it seems like a good solution.
Or would it be best to wire each switch individually to the power and ground?

So nice unit …
(only need to add a "blend" option)

but  why  post  if  without  any  build  info  ?
(bom,  parts  sources ,  major issues solitions , final cost , etc .. )
….. "advertising" .. ?  ::)

peace

For those asking, the PCBs are available at the link below -

There aren’t faceplates or cases available but it’s not too difficult to make one, just pay close attention to the data sheet for the switches and buttons used.

each push button switch has a corresponding LED connection on the board.

I’ve gotta revisit this project again. I never finished mine and think now is a good time to start it back up.

is it redundant to have both the MSII matrix and elliptical filter? I’d imagine the elliptical filter would be ran post MS decoding to sum the low end to mono but also feel like high passing the sides with a filter on the insert might lead to a ‘cleaner’ master, depending on the source material.

I'm going to use both, I'm curious as to how it sounds compared to an EQ inserted in the Side channel of the MS2. Since is uses allpass filters to align the mid phase to the highpassed side channel, I think the result will be cleaner.

Curious on the preferred order of these boards. Seems like most consoles have the EEQ last. What about the MS2, do you have a stereo insert before and/or after? Several inserts in the MS2? Details and thoughts welcome...

The same result can be achieved with an EQ in the "S" channel and an APF in the "M" channel. I don't think a tunable APF is a common resource in most studios :) .
I’d imagine the elliptical filter would be ran post MS decoding to sum the low end to mono
Since the EEQ and an EQ inserted in the MS matrix are both linear processes, the order is irrelevant.
