Have a laugh at this (china) mic! :D

Hi guys, I had to clear my bench as there were a couple of minor projects "in the way". One was this IMG Stage Line ECM-180, that I wanted to mod. So I opened it up and out came this endless pair of wires from the capsule...

Isn't this awesome? This is a startling 25 (!) cm of wire to the base of the mic head. This is probably close to 30cm of wire from the pcb to the capsule in total...  ;D

Maybe just connect them to an external antenna while you’re at it  ;D

Oh, how nice, another MXL 990 incarnation.... appears to be modded (recapped), probably including the long wires.

I did the recap! I took the picture before I assembled the mic and shortened the capsule wires....

Before the cap swap,  it was loaded with ceramic capacitors. The sound was very brittle, now it is a lot smoother and very quiet. I went with WIMA FKP where possible, and ERO/AVX PET caps anywhere else (also upped D3 to a 12V zener). The input coupling cap is a WIMA FKP, I seem to love the sound of PP as input caps... to me they are smoother than polystyrene
