Another application: I used one of Sam Groener's discrete designs to put together a 'high-voltage' signal injection amp that could drive output tubes to full power for testing. It took the output of a function generator that was outputting about 1V peak and drove it up past 25V peak (or 50V p-t-p), using a single 120V rail.
