Can anyone give ideas to us newbies on how much each project may cost. I am interested in the estimated cost of a green mic pre, api 312 project, 1081, and ssl 9k. The estimate can be minus the cost of the case. Thanks for any help.

my rule of thumb is 50 to 60% of the retail version... ofcourse it all depends on how detailed you get with things like chassis, labeling/engraving screening... etc....

try and map out every detail before ordering parts.. then try and narrow your vendors down so that your not getting killed on shipping fees....

we all goto different lengths when doing DIY.. some prefer quality meters while others dont... some prefer fancy cases while some dont etc..

ie: LA2a finished runs me about $900... verses $2500 for a UA re-issue... the same LA2 could be done for $750 less the meter, chassis and such...

1176's ran me about $700 while you can get a decent used one for $1100....

you can save some cash but its not FREE :) just be aware that its the little crap that adds up...

1081 will run some serious cash.. transformers/inductors alone are going to be pricey... if you want the real knobs then its going to add up even more... add into that the rotary switches and I would be surprised to see one channel running around $700-$900
