I am building a 4 channel DIY microphone preamp and have been looking
for 10k reverse audio taper pots. I accidently discovered the following
part which is cheap and the correct taper. ALLELECTRONICS part number
NATP-10K. 50 cents each. About 40 detents over the full range.
That works for me.

Are you sure these are reverse audio taper? It doesnt say so in the description here: http://www.allelectronics.com/cgi-bin/category.cgi?query=&type=store&category=470&orderby=INVENTORY%2Estore%5Fquantity%2CORGANIZATION%2Ecategory%2CINVENTORY%2Ebrand%2CINVENTORY%2Emodel&start=32&limitcategory=&template=&searchfields=&match=&searchtype=

I have ordered a few of these out of curiosity. They are reverse audio taper indeed. They have a nice tight feel to them also. However, they appear to be 15% pots meaning that at half way rotation the resistance is about 1.5k. In my experience professional pots are usually 10% or 5%. That way the gain distribution is sounds more even throughout the range. Of course you would pay ten to fourty times more for those parts.
So for the pennies they sell them these pots are a tremendeous deal for cash strapped DIY-ers.

Cheers,
Tamas
