Hi all...

I have been looking through the internet trying to find a solid dealer in sturdy 19" chassis... preferably in Europe.

There are many manufactures and vendors but much of the stuff is rather flimsy.

I am looking for sturdy chassis to build a rack mounted tube power amp. It includes a pair of hefty transformers so weight will be a problem.

I have connections to make plates and like to increase durability but I cannot seem to find frames or chassis suitable for the task.

Forgot to mention that I prefer aluminum chassis since drilling big holes in steel sheet is a PITA :)

Thank you Sir

I had a closer look at their website and it seems like they are limited to 0.09" thickness which might be on the low side. Most of the chassis is made from 0.05" aluminum sheet and that is too thin for this project I am afraid.

One thing I’ve done is add a metal sheet to the bottom of the case. Some cases have threaded inserts to mount the bottom plate. You can remove those with a pin punch and secure both bottom plates with a screw and nut.

With serious weight to carry you should probably thinking about using a standard Eurorack sub-rack type of construction. These use 2.5mm side plates connected together by very sturdy aluminium extrusions. There are version for everything from light industrial ones suitable for trains. Many depths are available and top and bottom screens are also available. There are many manufacturers of these in Europe. The all meet the relevant DIN standard but their parts are not interchangeable so you basically need to pick a vendor and stick with them. The obvious European candidates suppliers of sub-racks are:

Schroff  (Germany)

Fischer (Germany)

SRS (UK)

I've been using this series of case for 20+ years.  Solid & cheap !

I see these have an aluminium front panel. Is the rear panel also aluminium?

Thank you all for your replys

I have been looking through the proposed webesites and I found this 19" rack mounted chassis.

https://www.fischerelektronik.de/web_fischer/en_GB/cases/N02.02/19%22%20plug-in%20boxes/$catalogue/fischerData/PR/VESA_GT2_70/index.xhtml

The technical drawing is not all too revealing and it seems to be 1,5mm thickness aluminum... I would prefer a bit thicker.

But the link with the 3U chassis is very close to what I am looking for... even a 4U would be fine... depth 2-3 inches (or 5 - 7,5cm)

How do you get on making holes in the steel rear panel? I have always found steel to be a PITA.

Hole punches for XLR.  Drill and jigsaw for i.e.c.    Drill and jigsaw for DB25.    I'd like a punch for the i.ec, but after 30 years I have the drill and jigsaw down pretty quickly nowadays.

OK, got it. Jigsaw helps a lot. It's the final filing that always gets me. Doesn't help having arthritis in my knuckles.

Thank you Sir

Me too in fact... especially for all types of preamps, compressors and like.

Thing is that I now are trying to find something other than what they offer... otherwise they have very good products

Most sturdy I bought in Europe are from Modushop, great cases and a lot of options:
