Hi Guys,

Need a decent PSU for my 4 x API-312, noticed i was getting some hum when using all the 48v on this unti, then opened it up and the PSU is quite hot!!
rather than make another PCB i think I would rather buy a few decent PSU and start upgrading my rack gear properly.

Is anyone selling the PCB for  PSU which will handle 4 x API-312 and have 48v adjustable as well?

regards

Spence.

I've been using these SMPS with very good results.
Unfortunately the 48v is out of stock at the moment...

They are not cheap but do save a lot of time!

Doesnt seem to be any cheap UK options so far?  fivefish will be $80 including shipping which i think is rediculous.
might as well just build my own again, shame there isnt a good option in UK.

There's an Australian dude on Ebay who sells pretty cool pcb's that can do 16v +- and 48v. I'm fairly certain with a few adjustments you can get 24v. Mnats has a good variable supply with 48v at Hairball. Gustav has one too I believe at PCBGrinder.  And finally JLM is my pick as Joe several pcb's each with several options with one up too six rails

As I said before all have big shipping fees as not uk, be nice to have a link if you guys can find them as I cant find anything, probably just gonna use what I have and upgrade the 48v regulator to 783 just need to work out what resistors to use.

None that I mentioned are kits so your paying for a pcb. So it's pretty cheap. The five fish kits are super nice but come with all the parts hense the shipping cost. I guess Gustav would be the closest to you but JLM are pretty cheap and the shipping is pretty cheap as well. Although you could just use one of the 100's psu designs from here. TeeKay has a great design fwiw.

Volker from Silent arts does a PN48vpsu pcb that is exactly what you need.

But remember you could use just a PN psu boards & do the 48v with a second pcb.  They don't all have to be on 1 pcb.

Thanks Guys and thanks rob for those links, Im gonna try to rebuild what ive got and make it a bit more heavy duty if i can!!
first to change the 48v 317 regulator for a 783, i'll change the others as im pretty sure they were all getting too hot, will put on some bigger heat sinks and see how they fair!!
Seem to be the quickest fix as if i use those other boards i'd have to tinker with one of them to get the 48v

Ive messaged Volker to try and get 2 x PN48PSU pcbs which will hopefully sort it once and for all, typically i was recording drums and need this API-312 4 x channels fopr the toms!!! so thats why i need to fix asap

I have various boards that I would happily supply but unfortunately I am on holiday at the moment and will not be returning to Glasgow until 14th August. So, Volker will fix you quicker.

However, for future requirements perhaps you may all consider the  attached. Triple, dual and single.

Getting perfect +/- 18v on new built psu based on the Silent Arts psu and the 48v 317 keeps blowing, voltage before the 47R resistor  for a brief second goes to 67v then down to 47v, then a second after it just drops?

Just seen what the problem could be by comparing the JLM 3 rail schematic.

on the JLM the 47R is after the resistors and caps?

have moved the 47R so its between the 1000uf/22k and the LM317/diode and still get overload and blow LM317?

this is why im buying the pcbs off Volker!! im crap with PSUs!!!!!

ok i found my mistake, one cap round the wrong way, only getting 27.70v on 48v? thats max with 240R and 5k pot, will change 240R for 120R and see how it is.

yep 5k with 120R, sorted!!!

Sahib, these all look very nice.

well, ive tested the newly built PSU which is like JLM version and i dont have any hum now when using 48v but the heat sinks still get pretty hot!!!

Use larger heatsinks.

You obviously have quite large voltage drop across the regulators, hence higher power wasted.

This one is from Gustav is good, cheap, simple and does what you need:
