Diagnosing Yamaha SPX1000

Some time ago a friend gave me this Yamaha SPX1000 fx unit. It was totally dead. I changed the button battery and it came back to life. The problem now is that it won't keep the settings left when shutting it down. Any idea about how this could be fixed?

It may require a hard reset after battery replacement. I'm sure there is a description in the manual.
