Hi Folks,

I'm putting together a MIDI controller to use with some SSL console-style software.

I'd like the controller to look SSL-ish so I was thinking of using SSL-style pushbuttons. I realise there are different SSL button types (the square ones found in the 500-series, rectangular ones, etc.) so anything close is OK.

Does anyone know where to get these buttons or something similar?

Cheers,

Chris

This is the one I used for my SSL clones.

Only comes with a white LED tho, but you can disassemble it and replace the LED with other colors, except the LED has to be a 1.8mm LED, which isn't as commonly available as 3mm and 5mm. I have successfully replaced it with a 3mm LED, but it's very hard to do.

I have not done this before, but I think you can also make the white LED change into other colors by coating the LED itself with a transparent/candy tone paint.

Alternative solution, insert a square cut out color transparent plastic film. I have tried this with a kapton tape; the button indeed lighted up with a yellowish color, but I didn't like it, and thus ended up replacing the LED instead.

Don audio has these very good-looking ones that folks often use for gssl-type projects.  They’re pricey, but if you don’t need too many...

For those SSL uses Alps switches.  E-switch and C&K also have similar offerings.

Just had a quick look at those you mentioned. Am I right in thinking that due to their small size none of these will be panel-mount?

Here it is:

If you look the the SSL pics you posted there's no nuts around the buttons so no way to panel mount those type of switches.
So the switches you told us you're looking after are pcb mount
