Hey guys,

Working on my 1967 Chrysler Newport radio. It uses two 2N1227a Germanium transistors (TO-3 package).

Any thoughts on a modern replacement?

INFO:

Type Designator: 2N1227

Material of Transistor: Ge

Polarity: PNP

Maximum Collector Power Dissipation (Pc): 50 W

Maximum Collector-Base Voltage |Vcb|: 35 V

Maximum Collector-Emitter Voltage |Vce|: 30 V

Maximum Emitter-Base Voltage |Veb|: 15 V

Maximum Collector Current |Ic max|: 3 A

Max. Operating Junction Temperature (Tj): 95 °C

Transition Frequency (ft): 0.1 MHz

Forward Current Transfer Ratio (hFE), MIN: 50

Noise Figure, dB: -

Package: TO3

No "modern" replacements as Germanium transistors are not produced for a long time, and you can't replace them for Silicon without altering the circuit around them.

I have a nice stock of TO-3 Germanium transistors, do you want me to check out if I have any of the list?
I would gladly send it to you for free as I have much more germanium transistors than I will ever use in my entire life.

Are you sure your two 2N1227 are shot?
How do you know?

Thanks guys for the info. Turns out the transistors are okay. Replacing caps fixed the issue, but I was looking preemptively.
