Keep or cut!

Usually in this non perfect world, 'telescoping' the 'drain' as sometimes referred to in 'Bel-foil' cable types, is the fix! It usually better to lift the Pin 1 at the end of the highest gain. This is considered better because the outer shield sometimes picks up RF, and RF present at the input of a high gain device is risky one may say.

As far hum from ground loops go, it typically doesn't matter which end you lift Pin 1.

'Telescoping' refers the idea that Pin 1 is connected at the start, then Pin1 is lifted, then Pin 1 is connected, then Pin 1 is lifted, on and on until the cable runs out!
