I believe the best selling album in history used a humble Shure SM7B as the primary vocal mic... and that's only one step up from an SM57/58 ! 
Half of Adelle's Skyfall was recorded with Rode classic 2, the other half with a 49 in different spaces.
Price range, construction, capsules, electronics couldn't be more different. Has anyone ever noticed that?
Off topic, i am having a blast these days with a 100$ CM4 from Line Audio on everything. Killer mic.
