VERY interesting paper, I’m not pretending to understand, but I got the gist and it gives me hope after so many saying it’s impossible:

Dude really? We were talking about one micrometer and sub micrometer SPUTTERED MYLAR. Not diaphragms made out of aluminium. But knock yourself out....
 
This has nothing to do with our discussion in another thread. It has to do with the phone conversations and email exchanges I’ve had over the years with various people I highly-respect; with all knowing full-well Neumann did it back in the 1950s with great sound-success, but quickly abandoned it for production benefits with the release of a brand new material, PET. I think the attitude has just been: I’ve played with this and that, which is way easier to handle, and that was hard enough or wasn’t a success, so that definitely can’t be done.
