Well I have not been here for a little while. I bought Kevin's book Volume One as many sugggested and it is very good and full of information. I hope to but some of the other books soon. Meanwhile I was wondering if anyone could suggest the best replacement power transformer for the Altec 342B, schematic here www.pc24seven.com/audio/Altec342b.jpg.

Thanks Bert

Man, don't open that first link, 10 minutes to load, 10 minutes to unload, 10 minutes to reboot computer.

From what I saw, you want a Peerless 2 x 6L6/6550 type output.
4400 ohms centertapped to 16/8/4 ohms might work.
Figure about 1 to 10 mh per ohm, so maybe 8 to 80 henries pri inductance depending on how much bass you want, with 348 ohms dcr end to end.
I have one I'll sell ya for 200 bucks.
Otherwise, cheap, non interwoven generic stuff if your on the Dave Davies budget.
Maybe a guitar transformer if you don't need 20 to 20 freq response.

If you want to run a PA system for a battle ship, horns strung on a 70.7 volt line, I have just the transformer for you. A WeCo Model 5214, circa 1940.

Now here this....Now hear this..... We will be leaving Iraq immediately.

The tricky part is the taps for the 12vdc heater, and neg. bias rails.
Is it upright or laying on it's side?

Something like a Fender Super Reverb xfrmr (side mount) could do, but you'd need a seperate supply for the 12vdc, or mod the dual triodes for 6vac.
