Anybody here built their own studio furniture? I'm looking at making something like this:
http://www.omnirax.com/site/show_product.asp?pid=54&cid=2

and thought I'd see if people have any plans, etc. If not cool-it doesn't seem too dificult. I've had some experience with cabinet making, etc.

I welded my frame out of 1/2 rebar welded together, sandblasted and painted black. then i took some very expensive 3/4" maple sheets and made the top. finished it off with a thick clear acrylic and it's been beautiful since. did the same thing with the sidecar.

you can't really see much of the desk though..

cheers!

Here is a desk I made:

It is mainly MDF with wood trim. Not as smooth looking, but pretty nice.

Here's a pic of a desk I just finished three weeks ago or so...

The best part was that I made it out of almost all scrap wood with the exception of two, eight foot long 2x4s. I am currently renovating the house my wife and I bought last August and by renovating I mean un-doing what the previous owners did. In doing so, I've saved a lot of wood that they used very poorly including the luon I used for the side panels, 3/4" plywood from our bedroom closet doors that I used for the monitor riser and the top of the desk, and the majority of the 2x4s that I used for the rest.

Look down at the bottom of the page
