Any new diy ideas on converting SOIC to DIP?

Hi Stepehen,

I've had some luck with using a home-etched board for the SOIC, and then taking each lead via a trace to larger 0.1" pads, drilled to take 0.1" pin-headers. These pins then act as standard DIL pins. Quite tricky to make, because you're etching such small tarces.

RS and Farnell sell the adaptor sockets, which are just as described above, but obviously the board quality is high.

Thanks again Mark, I've just burnt 2 of the fingers on my left hand so I'm a little less enthusiastic about doing this - and I managed to break a pin form the SOIC (a 4580), so enough for today.
