FOr those who don't know ther Vipre by Groovy tubies is an all tube mic pre amp that has 7 tubers in total for a mono channel MIc pre. IMO Best sounding Mic Pre one could get their hands on. As well as the fuctionality allows for the need to not use an EQ on the Mic because of the control of Impedance matching as well as electronics rise time. so who wants some more gear porn?

Help Admin's I posted in the wrong forum again. Dammit the coffee hasn't kicked in yet. Oh well coulde someone move this or explain how to move this to the lab?

I wish I had a schemo as well. Something I will eventually work on.

You can't move the thread to another forum. Only administrators can. Send a PM to Ethan.

thats what I thought. I won't waste his time... wen I get home from work today I will just make a new thread in the lab. it will be full of wonderfull dirty gear porn of my vipreeee. :green: wow what a tease no? :green:

Get your tubes out for the lads!

No hardcore, though. My friends say it is degrading to audio electronics.

Definitely no sparks flying everywhere! That is a no-no.

fook me. Session ran later then anticipated last night. So I am going to have to get those pictures up here tonight for sure. Sorry for being a big tease on this one. Hey Frank I gotta see the inside of that glory comp. Does it sound as good as I think it does and as good as GeeTea claims? If it's anything like their viper I'm already sold.

pucho812:
I don't own one, and haven't heared one yet. Maybe better... because i can buy much drywall for my studiodiy instead of buying this nice vipre

Gus:
Maybe thats for a better mechanical fastening than for shielding purposes? Isn't there a spring inside of it just like the tube retainer?

Frank.

nrg cool pics!!!!!
this is some of the best gear porn I've seen.

Now THAT"S a PCB i'd like to see ... hehe

It is time. I finally had a break in my crazy weekend to do the photos. The tubes are as follows 4 EC88, 1 12AT7, 2 AQ5

I got them real clear. Now if I only had a second ViaPre so I could go out my console threw the line in's and then to the 2 track.

So much for simplicity...

What the hell kind of amplifier is this thing anyway?? I see no fewer than 15 trimpots, 7 ICs, 6 transistors, 8 tubes, 6 rotary switches (4 multi-deck), and about a million resistors & caps.

All that for ONE CHANNEL. No wonder it lists for $3,500!

I must confess, I love it when people do insanely irrational things just to make a point, whatever that point may be. However, if I had $3,500 to drop on my set-up, I'd be happily adding quite a few new DIY pieces to the rack.

I gotta ask...

Why would you use a PCB and then use all those little jumper wires from the tube sockets to the board? That alone has got to cost a substantial amount in labor.

I'm sure its a GREAT sounding pre, but it would appear that ease of manufacturability was really not a part of the design...

Peace!
